Servants as Roommates

With tonight’s premiere of Downton Abbey, I’ve been thinking a lot about the family as roommates. They are our first roommates when we are young and sometimes our last roommates when we are old. I’ve written about living with our families in the past – My Grandmother living with her family -  and the present – Mom, Drop the Binoculars (awkward modern day dating adventures)

While wandering the bookstore, I discovered Servants, a book published this spring with real life letters and stories about their lives. So far, I haven’t been able to put it down. In the future, I’ll likely have more to say. But for now,  I found a recent interview with the author on NPR. You can listen to it here. I couldn’t wait to share it, especially with the premiere of Downton tonight. Happy listening, watching, and observing people who shared space.
